Our diverse and supportive boarding community is a ‘home away from home’, where students have the freedom to learn new skills, study and socialise with peers and the boarding team. As well as fostering lifelong learning and independence, it’s a place where lasting friendships are formed.
Boarding life is all about balance. At BBIS, while every day is different, our structured schedule includes plenty of free time for extra-curricular activities or further study. And, along the way, students have the support they need to feel safe and comfortable in striving to reach their potential.
Health and wellbeing
BBIS Boarding promotes a culture of positive health and wellbeing, and we work hard to help students live a healthy lifestyle. We encourage participation in extra-curricular activities and provide mentors for every boarding student, who offer academic and social support throughout the year.
Our school nurses are available in the boarding house each day, providing assessments and care when needed. Boarding students are also supported by the school’s health team and Student Support Services. In addition, our Boarding School Counsellor is available during the day and in the evenings for academic, health and wellbeing support.
When required, we can accompany boarding students to medical appointments.
Activities, clubs and events
Our boarding students take part in many different activities, clubs and events, both at school and in the wider community in Kleinmachnow and Berlin. As well as the school’s extra-curricular programme, BBIS Boarding offers a full programme of weekday and weekend activities and clubs. Recent examples include:
- Thai cooking school
- Cinema trips
- Bundesliga football trip
- Poker and Cards club
- Chess, gym and cooking club
- Berlin Botanical Gardens and Christmas markets
- Escape Rooms
- Go Karting
- Paintball
Many boarding students take part in off-campus activities, playing sport for local clubs and teams, and spending their free time exploring surrounding areas. We regularly take students on excursions to local attractions and, twice a year, we head off on overnight trips to places like Rügen, Hamburg and Dresden.
A typical day at BBIS Boarding
From Monday to Friday, the students are at school. On Friday evenings, Saturdays and Sundays, the schedule is more relaxed – with a range of activities and trips to keep the students busy, while giving them time for further study either in the boarding house or the school library.
