The Grade 10 Personal Project

Every year, our Grade 10 students take on an exciting challenge - the Personal Project. Over six months, they dive deep into their passions, developing skills, exploring interests, and applying their learning within the IB Middle Years Programme framework.

The journey culminates in the much-anticipated Personal Project Exhibition, where students proudly share their creative and innovative outcomes with their families and the BBIS community. From ambitious research projects to hands-on creations, each project reflects the curiosity, dedication, and personal growth of our students.

We invite you to explore the stories behind some of these projects and discover the learning that inspired them.

Andrii

"For my personal project, I have decided to film an 18-minute football documentary, about the different youth play styles in Central Europe, with a few experts. I wanted to make this documentary, because I think this would be beneficial for many football players, and for my own awareness, to know about the different styles of play and how to adapt to them. The biggest challenge I faced was the editing of the video, but I overcame that challenge through perseverance and the drive to release the documentary to the public."

Daria

"For my personal project, I created a children's book about a refugee's experience of a character through the eyes and perspective of an innocent child. I published my book, and the funds that I collected from my sales, I donated to a charity supporting the people in Ukraine and the soldiers fighting on the battlefield, providing them with food, water, and other necessities. My main motivation for creating my book was the impact that I could have. I was able to raise awareness that the war isn't over and that hundreds of people die daily, also making donations of all of the funds I raised, contributing and giving back to those so brave, ensuring and fighting for my loved ones and my safety every day."

Mikhail

"I made a prototype of a small CanSat-class planetary probe. The probe can collect different data, such as temperature, pressure, speed, location, and altitude. I will participate in a CanSat competition by the European Space Agency, where they will launch my CanSat 1km up on a rocket. I want to be an aerospace engineer in the future, so I wanted to learn how to do something similar to what I'm planning to do in the future. The hardest part about it was choosing the right hardware and assembling it altogether."

Alexander

"For my personal project I built an electric guitar. I crafted the body of an instrument from scratch and assembled it using pre-made components like the neck, pickups, and electronics. My goal of this project was to craft a custom electric guitar, shaping and finishing it to fit the hardware and achieve a unique aesthetic. I wanted to learn about guitar construction, especially woodworking, shaping techniques, and how the body’s material affects resonance and tone. This project provided me with a deep understanding of how all parts of the guitar come together, and it actually works from inside."
