My role at BBIS:
Mandarin, EAL and Student Support Teacher
When did you join BBIS?
August 2016
What is your background?
I have quite a diverse background, having lived, studied and worked in many different countries, such as Australia, Fiji, China, UK and now Germany. I have been teaching for 17 years and absolutely love it!
What inspires you in your professional role?
My students inspire me everyday. Their curiosity, energy and love of learning, drive me to become a better educator, constantly seeking new ways to help them realise their potential. I love seeing students develop as they learn a new language, from barely being able to say hello to writing and performing a play; it is just amazing!
What are you passionate about?
Aside from education, I am passionate about learning about different countries and ways of life. Whether it is about food, music or religion, I am fascinated by diverse cultures and what makes us who we are. I enjoy learning from my students and colleagues about places they have lived and different customs and traditions that they have. I am lucky to be able to teach languages, where we can explore how unique yet interconnected we all are. This is another reason why I feel fortunate to work in such an international community.
What makes BBIS special?
BBIS is special because it fosters creativity, providing a safe space for students to find out who they are, what they are capable of and how they can get to where they want to go. It gives students a voice and freedom in many aspects of their school life, whilst also providing structure and guidance, thus steering them in the right direction. Above all, it is a supportive workplace with great staff and students, which makes coming to work here truly enjoyable.
